Clear Channel Media & Entertainment is buying New York City’s WOR(AM) from Buckley Broadcasting Corp.

Terms were not disclosed and the sale is subject to regulatory approval.

The sale would provide Clear Channel’s first AM in the New York City market.

The 50,000 watt WOR was founded in 1922 and has a history of embracing technology. WOR was one of the first radio stations to use a directional array to increase the scope and range of its coverage and the station was the first AM in New York City to broadcast with HD Radio technology.

Clear Channel Chairman/CEO John Hogan said WOR is a “powerful, high potential complement” to the broadcast groups’ New York music-formatted FMs: WAXQ, WHTZ, WKTU, WLTX and WWPR.

Buckley has owned WOR for more than 23 years. Buckley President/CEO Joe Bilotta said with the sale, WOR listeners, advertisers and employees will gain access to the resources of a worldwide, multi-dimensional media and entertainment company. “We have had a great run with WOR and could not be more confident that it is poised for another great run as part of the Clear Channel Media and Entertainment team.”

Independently owned and operated since 1956, Buckley owns 17 stations in six markets as well as the WOR Radio Network talk program syndicator.
