Arcadia Publishing has released “Hartford Radio,” the newest volume from their Images of America series.

The book, written by local Hartford author John Ramsey, documents the early days of Connecticut radio using approximately 200 vintage photographs.

The history of those airwaves dates back to 1923 with the premier of WRDC, the state’s first radio station, which went on to help pioneer FM radio technology. The city’s radio broadcasts helped residents stay informed of various historical events including World War II, the floods of 1938 and 1955, the Cuban Missile Crisis and the great Northeast Blackout of 1965.

Ramsey’s life in radio began as a dedicated listener, later becoming a broadcast engineer in 1978. He is currently the general manager of WWUH(FM) at the University of Hartford, chief engineer at WCCC(FM) and is the webmaster of www.hartfordradiohistory.com.

“Hartford Radio” is available from Arcadia Publishing through bookstores, retailers and online at arcadiapublishing.com.
