IDC Wins Contract for 'PRSS Forward'

NPR said International Datacasting Corp. will supply equipment for the refurbishment of the Public Radio Satellite System.
"The refurbishment project — known as 'PRSS Forward'— will run through 2013 and utilize these funds to execute significant improvements to equipment provided to PRSS interconnected stations nationwide and to internal PRSS systems," NPR stated.
Canadian company IDC will provide new head-end transmission equipment for the PRSS Network Operations Center in Washington and an initial order of new station satellite receivers.
The announcement was made by NPR VP of Distribution Pete Loewenstein and IDC President/CEO Ron Clifton. Loewenstein says the network has had a "long-standing partnership" with the supplier.
The upgrade includes acquisition of IDC Model SFX4104 EXP Pro Audio Satellite Receivers and new head-end components for the PRSS NOC including IDC's Datacast XD Host, NetManager2 System and Production Manager transmission hardware.
NPR says the PRSS transmits 400,000 hours of programming each year from some 200 producers to approximately 800 public radio stations. It is managed by NPR's Distribution Division.
