Kenwood USA, iBiquity Digital and the HD Radio Alliance are working together on an ad campaign to promote Kenwood’s KDC-HD545U, a CD in-dash receiver featuring the IBOC technology.

A national radio campaign begins this month in big media markets, with spots that air through September. These focus on features like iTunes Tagging and the HD2/HD3 digital channels.

Keith Lehmann, senior vice president of Kenwood’s Consumer Electronics Sector, believes the promotion will associate HD Radio technology with Kenwood brand awareness that will drive consumers into stores looking for a product demonstration.

Kenwood was the first company to bring HD Radio receivers to market, said iBiquity Digital President/CEO Bob Struble, who stated in the announcement: “Continuing this tradition by offering digital radio in the competitively priced KDC-HD545U solidifies Kenwood's market leadership position.”

In addition to HD Radio, the KDC-HD545U CD receiver features an auxiliary input and a front-panel USB input for controlling an iPod and enabling iTunes Tagging. The user can play CDs as well as discs containing MP3, WMA and AAC files.

Consumers are being encouraged to visit the Kenwood USA and HD Radio websites and check out details of the promotion.

The list price is $249; Crutchfield has it for just under $170.

I thought it was China that was going to pull iBiquity out of the hole they're in when Struble took a few trips around the world peddling his wares a few years back. Since then there's been half a dozen other campaigns that were going to save them from the technology trash-heap. Now comes Kenwood. Anyone see a pattern here?

Nothing new here but more good money after bad in yet another vain attempt by iBiquity. The same old story with undoubtedly the same results (and we all know what that will be). Who pays iBiquity employees salary anyway? This must be very frustrating for them.

You HD Radio folks are delusional. HD Radio is becoming the laughing-stock. The BBC chief just declared DAB in the UK a flop. So goes HD Radio...
