At issue in the dispute are patents that MAD and DigiMedia say it holds that describe a system and method for a programmable digital audio automation system for stations where the music is stored in a digital database.

DigiMedia, now the holder of the patents in question, has sent another round of letters to broadcasters in an attempt to negotiate license agreements for automation systems. We’ve reported the company now tells stations that the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office has confirmed its patent claims.

In the letter to stations, DigiMedia refers to the “impending lifting” of the stay of the litigation it is involved in with a number of radio groups.   

We reported last week that no such lifting has occurred and broadcasters have asked the USPTO to continue the stay while a patent examiner takes another look at the disputed patents.

MAD and DigiMedia representatives have also called broadcasters in an attempt to negotiate a license agreement, according to NAB, which provides several documents related to the dispute on the new page.
