Rev. Jesse Jackson Opposes Sirius-XM As it Stands

The Rev. Jesse Jackson says the proposed satellite radio merger — in its current form — does not serve the public interest.
Speaking this week at the FCC’s localism hearing, Jackson, president and founder of the Rainbow Push Coalition said the proposed merger “would eliminate the potential for any meaningful competition in the satellite radio market which would, in turn, permanently block the potential for diversity of ownership and control by minorities in the only medium capable of nationwide broadcasting.”
If approved as currently structured, Jackson said, the merger would create a monopoly. He urged the commission “to take the appropriate steps to assure that this transaction only proceeds with a structure that best serves the good of the public.”
The FCC and Department of Justice are reviewing the proposed combining of Sirius and XM.
