"Everyone can win with radio in portable devices."

That's according to iBiquity Digital President/CEO Bob Struble, writing in his online column.

In a piece titled "It's the Device, Stupid!" Struble applauds radio industry leaders for driving the implementation of new technologies, and highlighting initiatives to make AM/FM inclusion in handheld and mobile devices a priority.

He says radio leaders have begun to focus on the radio itself, "the device," whether it is a traditional receiver or a cell phone, MP3 player or personal navigation device.

Struble cites advancements on several fronts: the industry's Radio 20/20 initiative; the push to make AM/FM a priority for all portables; Samsung and SiPort's low-cost, low-power HD Radio chipsets for portables; and applications like iTunes tagging and "Buy from FM," which could be revenue sources for wireless carriers or digital music providers.
