ViaRadio EAS Systems Adopted

Putnam County in central Tennessee and the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Fla., have installed Envoy emergency alerting systems.
The Envoy from viaRadio uses FM frequency Radio Data System (RDS) and the common alerting protocol (CAP) to deliver messages to the company's Hearo receivers. By utilizing the FM frequency range, the network can enable local broadcasters to transmit messages as well as using dedicated transmitters, the company says.
Messages dispatched can concern NOAA weather alerts, Amber alerts or customized emergency messages.
At UCF the campus radio station, WUCF 89.9 FM, is central to the emergency alert network. The campus has 50,000 students and sits on approximately 1,400 acres.
In Putnam County, the system replaced on old VHF setup. Hearo receivers will be placed into county schools, hospitals, nursing homes, government buildings and emergency responder facilities.
