IBiquity Says Development Time Is Dropping as Manufacturing Ramps Up

10.10.2008

Ibiquity Digital issued a flurry of business announcements this week.

It said that more than 1 million HD Radio modules have been manufactured for retail radio receivers using Texas Instruments DRI Series chipsets.

The company's Jeff Jury said this reflects a "steady increase" in product development and will translate to retail sales; he also identified "a significant drop in product development and production time. Many products are going through this cycle in less than six months, contributing to the rapid growth of products coming to market."

Module manufacturers using the TI chipsets include ACE Dixxio, Kensen, Kiryung, Kwang Sung Electronics, LG Innotek, Powertech, Samsung EM, TOKO and Wistron NeWeb Corp.

These modules are used in products from AAMP of America, Audiovox, Alpine, Coby, CSW, Denon, Dual, Harman/JBL, Insignia, Jensen, JVC, jWIN, Marantz, Onkyo, Pioneer, Polk, Radio Shack, Sangean and Yamaha.

Also, iBiquity said, more than 1.5 million HD Radio chipsets have been shipped overall, with Texas Instruments and NXP leading.

It also said the number of HD Radio products certified has passed 100, including clock radios, tabletop systems, stereo tuners, high-end components, iPod docking stations, OEM head units for more than 10 auto manufacturers, aftermarket head units, tuner boxes to upgrade OEM or aftermarket in-dash radios, and upgrade kits.

As certification workload increased, iBiquity licensed two firms in Asia to do that work, a move it says has helped cut down on development time as well.
